‘Unravelling the Unusual’ is a unit of work for Key Stage 1 children using a collection of black and white picture resources. There are 10 pages, with 12 pictures on each page.
Each picture is unusual in some way and can be classed in different ways such as silly, useless or wrong.
Examples include the bucket with holes, the train with square wheels, a fingerless glove and a child riding a donkey back to front.
The activities included are engaging and are designed to develop speaking, listening, writing, and creative thinking skills.
The Unit of Work provided is in a table format detailing 7 suggested activities, their objectives, the resources needed, and step-by-step instructions for implementation.
A fun activity linked to both Animals and Bible Stories.
There are 20 pairs of animals to prepare for their journey on Noah’s Ark.
One of each pair is in colour. The other is black and white. Children colour these in to make matching animal pairs. They can also trace over the dotted lines of the names of the animals.
When all of the animals are coloured, children can cut them out and play matching games such as Snap and Pairs.
Print on thin card for best results.

This unit of work is designed for Key Stage 1 and integrates literacy and phonics with maths concepts like sorting, pairing, and categorizing.
